It was a Classic.

That's why it was slow, then; it was probably an mPower. I have
never had the problem you describe on my Apex, although I did on
my mPower. If you can afford an Apex or can get funding from
rehab or another nonprofit (the Lions Club, for example,) I
think
it is a good investment. I don't have a lot of hands-on
experience with the PacMate, although I did play around with one
a little at the Braille Challenge conpetition in Los Angeles and
have heard some podcast demos of it, and I think the BrailleNote
is generally easier to navigate than the PacMate. That's just
my
personal opinion; if you are comfortable with the PacMate's
layout and like it better than the BrailleNote, don't let me
discourage you!

I've experemented with a Braille Note, (one of the older
models,)
at
the 2010 convention.
It took a few seconds, for what I was Brailling, to show up on
the
Braille display.
I haven't ever had that problem, with the Pac Mate, I used in
High School.
I'd say, the slowness, depends on the model.
I'm interested in the Apex!

Please define what you mean by slow. Have you used a

Braille Textbooks are needed for most Math.
The Pac Mate isn't as slow, as the BN, though.

I'm not sure. I may be there, but I don't really know yet.
I'll
let you know if I will be. Thanks for the offer. I've tried
to
work the math on the BrailleNote, but even though you can do
it,
it's extremely slow and not good for taking notes. As for
getting my book electronically, I would if I could find it and
if
it's readable. Most math isn't readable with a screen reader.

I'm just concerned, because she mentioned her back being
affected
by
this constant use of the rolling backpack, with that heavy
Brailler in
it.
That Brailler is extremely heavy, plus with a backpack, with
huge
Braille books, it will hurt your back, because I had similar
problems!
For my Math classes, to alleviate the problem, in high school,
I
was
fortunate, to have a Brailler, in every classroom, (thanks to
my
VR
Counselors,) (this was when they were cooperating.)
I have an old Perkins, that I'm willing to get rid of, by the
Fall, of
this year, because I won't need it again.
Lanie, will you be at convention, this year?
Also, I'm still hoping, that David can market that new
lightweight
Brailler, that he showed me, 2 years ago.
Thanks, Joshua

Joshua,
You really could rephrase that as, "If possible, you could
leave the
Brailler." As has been stated, this does not seem to be an
option. What
works for you does not work for everyone. I know from
experience that it is
necessary to have a Brailler for certain types of math.

Just use the Braille note.
Leave the Brailler alone.

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on
this.
I'm taking Calculus 2 in college and have to carry around
several
Braille volumes so that I can keep up, a Brailler, my
BrailleNote, Braille paper, and an APH Graphing Aid for
Mathematics, all in a huge rolling bag. I have reason to
think
that all this is messing up my back. I don't know how to
lighten
the load, but I can't keep carrxing it. I've already talked
with
the Office for Students with Disabilities coordinator, but
they
don't have any Braillers. How do any others on this list who
are
taking classes with huge Braille books and other things like
this
do it? Do you use a large bag like I do? Any advice here would
be
great! Thanks.
