I can't help you with German Braille. I've studied French online and it went well for me. I received good grades but some aspects of the studies was more difficult then others. It's easy to learn writing, reading and listening. The hardest thing is the speaking part. I would recommend you to find some other German students who want to practise with you. The best thing is of course to build friendships with people who speak the language as their mother tongue. It's more difficult to teach yourself a language by yourself but you can do it if you're devoted to the task.
