Subject: Re: [nabs-l] MiniTab with JAWS?

Justin,
I just completed an itroductions Statistics course this past semester.
Unfortunately, Minitab wasn't very accessible with Jaws, but it was
doable. Stats is a very visual course, but it's nothing that we can't
manage of course.
I was able to create histograms, box plots and such though. When you
are in the minitab program go to file menu, arrow to the right till
you get to graphs... Then enter, then arrow down to the type of graph
you want to create, enter on it and it should create it for you.
Sometimes the graph is not lined up perfectly with the chart and you
might get the problem incorrect if the graph doesn't show the way the
program requires it to look like. I had a Graduate teaching assistant
sit along side of me while doing my minitab assignment this semester
and she would make sure my assignment looked presentable visually.
Also, there are other commands for the Minitab program that work
pretty well with jaws that your stats course teacher should go over
with you. I can't remember them off the top of my head, but if no one
goes over the commands with you; You may email me off list and I can
get in touch with my GTA or my Stats department at school and get all
of the commands written out for you. If you need to get in touch with
me, please email me at Lily1127 at me.com. I check that email more
frequently. Also, minitab is really good for doing the math for a
large five number summary and doing math for hypothesis testing which
you should be getting into towards the middle of your course. If you
need any help with formulas or deffinitions feel free to let me know.
I wasn't a pro at stats, but its still fresh in my mind so I'd be able
to help you some.
I complained to the Stats department about somehow making the minitab
program more accessible at my school, since the college has an
accessible technology department that works especially with making
programs more accessible. Anyhow, hopefully they'll find a solution to
making these types of math programs accessible for all in the near
future.
Another thing, if you're good at excell you can copy and paste your
minitab problems into excell and solve them there. Then paste your
final answers into the minitab data.
Then just have someone sighted look over your finished assignment.
Your call, but those are some options.
Anyhow, hope this helps some!
Have a great night.
Peace,
Lily
