[nabs-l] Preparing to attend an Nfb Training Center

Hi Joshua,

It may be hard to convince your state agency to send you to BLIND,
Inc. but I don't think you should give up yet. The law is on your
side, as VR consumers have a right to informed choice, meaning that
you can attend the center of your choice even if it is more expensive,
as long as you can explain to them why it is better for your
individual training and vocational needs. The NFB center staff have a
lot of experience working with VR agencies to ensure they abide by the
law and send consumers to NFB centers if that is their choice, and
there are several reasons why BLIND, Inc. provides a stronger training
program than many state-run centers.

I would suggest talking with Shawn Mayo at BLIND, Inc. about the
process if you are still interested, or you could just try talking
with your counselor and see what they say. Your counselor may surprise
you and be totally willing to send you there.

Best,
Arielle
