[nabs-l] A possible outreach idea

Hi all,

I would be very willing to put some time into some sections of high
school or college booklets. I think this is a great idea and would be
a great resource to those who might need it.

>From what I've seen in Ohio a lot of students who are visually
impaired and don't have commprehensive support from their families
often don't know where to look for resources, and other times they
have this false perception of the NFB and think we're militant. I
tried introducing a younger student to NABS because I thought it would
be good for him to see how other students were excelling and that he
could too if he put his mind to it, but once he found out it was NFB
affiliated he lost all interest in joining the group. Circulating a
booklet might be a good way of getting around this issue, rather than
telling someone, "Just go to the National Federation of the Blind's
student division page for resources," which can turn some people who
don't know about the NFB or NABS for what it really is off.
