Good morning Helga and everyone,
We need more blind people to become entrepreneurs rather than simply
finding a job. We're rather disappointed with the attitude of both consumer
organizations of the blind and of the blind in general concerning network
business opportunities. And this despite that back in the 1970s a blind
gentleman from Seattle Washington along with his wife became very successful
in a networking business. He did this without all of the bells and whistles
we now have i.e. smartphones, Internet portals where one can handle business
transactions, direct fulfillment of products, services, and training
materials, the list goes on.
Some have tried to explain his success away by the fact that his wife
was sighted. This is absolute rubbish! For every blind person with a sighted
spouse that succeed in a business of one kind or other there are 10 who
won't make the effort to try. With unemployment among the blind at 70%
should we only be job seekers or should we be job and opportunity creators?
Our networking business has been around for over 50 years. Longevity is
a factor to consider whenever you explore one of these opportunities.
Another is if an association that represents the participants has been
established to insure that the interests of the independent business
owner/distributor are represented. These two criteria will go a long way to
insure that you get involved with a tried and true opportunity with a proven
track record and will help you avoid the bad guys.
Whenever we've attended major business conferences we've seen large
groups of business owners representing various backgrounds, races and
nations. One group has a very large number of East Indian associates,
another has a large group of Hispanic associates. There are groups with
large numbers of Asian business owners as well. These groups consist of
entrepreneurs in just about every profession you could imagine everything
from factory workers to movie stars. With so many nationallities and
professions represented in network marketing in this day and age there is no
excuse for there not to be large numbers of blind persons and others with
disabilities earning big money and succeeding beyond their imaginations and
sharing the wealth with other blind and disabled individuals. This is just
as valid an answer to combating unemployment among the blind as is going to
school for umpteen years and getting that dream job that may materialize in
one or ten years given society's attitude towards the abilities of the
blind. I would also hope that consumer organizations of the blind such as
the NFB will encourage blind individuals to seriously consider business
ownership including participation in a networking opportunity as a viable
alternative to getting a job. I ask you again after you or your state VR
Agency has invested so much in to your education will you simply become a
job seeker or will you become ajob creator for yourself and others including
other blind people?
