[nabs-l] Time is running out to apply for the NFB of Ohio Scholarship Program

Hi all,

Please spread the word to others who may be eligible and not already
getting these messages.

Are you a blind student going to college next fall in Ohio?  Or are
you a student from Ohio who is attending college in another state?  Do
you need money and like the NFB?  Then apply for the NFB of Ohio
scholarship program.

Each year the NFB of Ohio awards 3 scholarships to deserving blind
students at its convention.  This year's convention will be held from
November 19-22 in Independence, Ohio.  Scholarship winners will
receive assistance to attend the convention in addition to their
scholarships.

The awards are:
The NFB of Ohio Scholarship-$1,000.
The Robert M. Eschbach Memorial Scholarship-$1,000.  Bob Eschbach
served as president of the NFB of Ohio for nearly a decade and was
also active nationally.  Bob's wife, Pat, remains active in the Ohio
affiliate.  This scholarship in its second year is presented in his
honor.
The Jennica Ferguson Memorial Scholarship-$1,500.  Jennica was a young
woman who embodied the Federation spirit.  She did not let blindness
or cancer stop her from living the life she wanted and was active
first in Ohio, then in Michigan's affiliate.  Though she died at 18
she was a great example of how a Federationist should be.  This
scholarship is presented annually in her honor.

The application process is similar to that of our national scholarship
program.  Applicants must complete the application form which is
attached and also found at nfbohio.org.  2 letters of recommendation
and a copy of transcripts are required as well as an essay.  Finally,
applicants must complete an interview with a member of the scholarship
committee via phone.  Additionally, it is required that all winners
attend the convention in order to allow for the scholarship committee
to get to know them and present the awards.  The scholarship committee
will decide the award each winner receives shortly before the banquet
on Saturday, Nov 21.

The deadline for submission is May 15th.  Please apply if you are
eligible, or share this message to a friend who is if you are not.
