Yes they've hear of that term before.  One time when my 
grandmother on my mom's side of the family was staying with me 
she told me that If I were still living in Trinidad I would be 
making baskets.  All of the blind people who live in Trinidad are 
taught to make baskets.  Some of them also take classes from the 
school for the blind in various blindness skills such as braille 
and cane travel.
