[nabs-l] writing papers and editing with word

Hi,
well, I just write them since the default margins are 1 inch. In Microsoft
2007 and later, the default font and size is size 10 with callibre font. So
change that to the standard type for papers and make it default; do this in
the font dialogue box which you open by pressing control D.
Papers are generally written in 12 font size with times new roman with 1
inch margins.
Papers are also generally written with double spaced lines. You can either
set it to double space lines at the beginning or double space it afterward.
Ask your professors if they want these settings; but generally they want
double spaced papers with 1 inch margins; 12 point font and times new roman.
The default Word setting is single lines. Change to double space in the
paragraph dialogue box. Alternatively, just double space it after you write.
I find that easier. To do that, select all your document text with control
A. Then press the double space command which is control 2; btw control 1 is
single space.

You can insert page numbers under the insert tab. I've always have trouble
with inserting headers but not all professors make you do that with papers.
Remember when quoting titles of books if you used them, you italicize the
titles; that command is control I.
These commands are toggles. So to turn italic off, press control I again.
In case you need it and do not know: bold is control B and underline is
control U.

Good luck. We might be able to help more with knowing the version of Word
you use and more specific questions.

Ashley

Subject: [nabs-l] writing papers and editing with word

Hey guys,

So, I'm wondering how you write your papers in word? Not from a technical
standpoint but, from a layout and methodical side. I can make an outline and
try to follow it but, I find that I stray. Also, how do you edit when using
a screen reader? Do you create a new document with rewritten work then copy
and paste?

P.S. I can see some things on the screen but I use JAWS due
to the fact that it reads everything and causes less eye strain. Thanks for
any help you can provide.

Thanks,

Aaron Linson
