   Hello; this is Glenn Moore, secretary of the National Federation of the
Blind of IL, with information about a few things the NFB is doing that are
of special interest to blind students (or those close to them).

*  NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS:*

   The NFB offers the largest scholarship program in the US for
legally-blind college students, and you could be a winner of one of 30
scholarships worth $3,000 to $12,000 each (definitely worth applying for).
It won’t take long, but to be sure you have all required documents ready,
you’ll want to prepare before the deadline.

*Thursday, March 31* is the deadline to apply.

   Get all the info at:

https://nfb.org/scholarships

including the *application checklist*:

https://nfb.org/scholarship-submissions-checklist

and, of course, the *online application*:

http://scholarships.nfb.org/

or, print application (PDF download link):

*   IL SCHOLARSHIPS:*

Our state affiliate too, offers scholarships each year to help you reach
your academic goals and redefine blind success in your career. Check out
our *state scholarship page *at:

http://nfbofillinois.org/?page_id=97

*March 31* is the deadline for state scholarship applications also, but
again, it’s best to prepare sooner (just like finals, but not nearly so
scary).

*   IL INTERNSHIPS:*

If you want a way to get to your academic goals (with a great accolade and
some income to cover college costs) plus kick-start career success at the
same time, apply for an NFB of IL internship.

*The Deadline* for applying is anytime, but you will need to submit the
application at least 6 weeks before beginning an internship. The benefits
start as soon as you do, and an internship experience can give you a great
edge in your career that will take you far. Info can be found at:

http://nfbofillinois.org/?page_id=100

*   SPRING SEMINARS:*

On *Friday, April 15 through Saturday, April 16*, the NFB of IL is bringing
back our ever-popular Spring Seminar Series. This year’s theme is *“Curriculum
and Beyond”*.

  Friday is the seminar for *Teachers of the visually impaired (CPDU’s
available too)*.

  Saturday is both the seminar for *parents* of blind children plus the
concurrent seminar for blind *students*.

*The Chicago Midway Marriott*, is the place where these all-day seminars
will be. Please check out this link with all the information and details
about the exciting things happening at this years’ seminars:

http://nfbofillinois.org/?page_id=598

*Registration ends March 31*, and you can register at this link:

http://nfbofillinois.org/?page_id=579

*   BELL ACADEMY:*

   If you are not a blind student, but you have a young blind student of
your own, you’ll be glad to learn that IL, will again be a state offering
the NFB’s acclaimed *Braille Enrichment for Literacy and Learning (BELL)
Academy *in 2016, and this year, we have two:

   *BELL-Chicago* will be Monday, July 25 – Friday, August 5 (8:30a –
3:30p), at the Chicago Lighthouse.

   *BELL-Springfield*, will be Monday, July 11 – Friday, the 15th, day and
overnignt.

       Both programs for school-aged blind kids, include meals, field
trips, and most importantly fun activities to better their Braille and
blindness skills (which is linked to greater skill, achievement and success
throughout life). Either site costs only $50 (which is truly, a phenomenal
value).

   Find out all about BELL at:

https://nfb.org/bell-academy

and *after March 15*, you can register at that link as well. By St.
Patrick’s day, I hope you not only have shamrock’s on your mind, but have
Bell’s on too.

If you have any questions, feel free to reply to this message, feel free to
share this with those you believe would benefit from this information, and
thank you.
