Hi, 
While I can see her point, I do not necessarily agree with your professor. Provided you are the one asking the questions and doing the work, I see this sort of assistance similar to that of a reader: your para is only providing the visual information that you cannot get yourself. Maybe it is time for a meeting between yourself, your teacher, and disability services. Have you thought of using a tape other than scotch tape, like masking tape, that has a rough texture? This could help you differentiate.
