[NABS-L] come on someone

Emily,

I have not looked at this book so am just speculating, but it has often been the case in programming books where program examples are inserted as screen shots and are therefore images rather than text. Typically, OCR, if it can be done, has trouble with programming examples because the character strings are less predictable than is the case in literary texts, and OCR errors are also more critical where one wrong character can make a program not work. If this is the case with this book, the inaccessible elements would be very essential. If programming examples are accessible and the images contain the occasional flowchart, then I would guess the images not being accessible would not make the book useless. Brian may have more information on this, though. However, if this specific book is not a requirement, there are likely other Python resources available that might work better. .

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Thanks. This is interesting, because I never thought about what kind of images would be in this type of book. Where I go to school, they produce my books and images on campus. You say that the student in question no longer receives services from their university, so I’m wondering if there are any volunteer organizations that produce images instead of just braille text.
