[NABS-L] [nabs-l] PowerPoint and PDFs

Hi everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone has ever had any trouble selecting "enable
editing", on a PowerPoint file downloaded from an internet source? The
usual methods I would use are pressing f6, or control+s to enable
saving, but these don't seem to work. I get an error message when
opening such PowerPoint files, which disappears if someone clicks
"enable editing." It's been a year or so since I've been in school,
and I am totally blanking on how I used to solve this problem. This
didn't happen with previous computers.
Also, I've noticed I basically get just a blank screen when I open
PDFs. These are typical PDFs with text, not images. Is there any way I
can read these without converting them to a word doc? Again, I don't
remember this happening with previous laptops. I am currently using
Jaws 17, but could download a newer version.
These are probably pretty basic questions, but any help would be appreciated.
Danielle
