Dear NABS,
My name is Dana Ibrahim
I am an Egyptian student residing in Egypt, and I have been blind since
birth.
With the help of my parents and some NGOs in Egypt, I received early
intervention and proper rehabilitation.
I was able to learn both literary and music braille, as well as the use of
assistive technology (I.E. screen-readers, talking graphing calculators,
and braille displays.)
I know that the NFB requires that I reside in the U.S., and I know that I
have to be 18 by July 5th, but please consider my request.
I truly, really need this scholarship; I am living in a country where
accessibility is practically non-existent.
I need to study in the U.S. because I have no options here in Egypt
regarding studying in an accessible school; blind people are not allowed to
study STEM courses at school, and even if they are, there are no
accommodations whatsoever.
I need near-full financial aid due to the high cost of studying abroad and
inflation rates that are rapidly rising; 1 U.S. dollar equates to about 32
Egyptian pounds.
I am sure that the NFB scholarship can offer me so many opportunities that
will help me truly make a change to the blind community.
Thank you so much in advance.
Sincerely,
Dana Ibrahim
