Dear Janna,
My husband and I flew to Nassau with our dogs last April. We had no access
issues at all. We did find that most of the island people were not used to
seeing blind people travel independently and as a result, they were way too
"helpful." We stayed at one of the resorts on Cable Beach and traveled by
bus and taxi while on the island. Motorists drive on the "wrong" side of the
road so that did take a little getting used to-- both when getting into the
vehicles and crossing streets.
Anyway, the cruise ships dock at Prince George Wharf in the heart of
downtown Nassau. Once you leave the pier, you will walk directly into Rawson
Square, which is the center of town. Taxis are readily available should you
want to take a quick trip over to Paradise Island. One thing that we did
that I especially enjoyed was participating in a guided walking tour of the
town.
We encountered no stray dogs in the resort areas or while in town but a few
miles out of town near one of the beaches, we did run into a pack of about
3-4 stray dogs who growled, barked and snarled but never came close to us.
Other than that, we had no problems with other dogs.
Best regards,
Ginger
