[nagdu] NAGDU and the Policy on Ownership

Tina,
First of all, I think it would be an excellent idea for the NFB of
california, through it's CAGDU division, to introduce a resolution
concerning the Board of Guide Dog Schools. I also think it would be an
excellent article for harness Up and the Braille Monitor.
Though it is true that blind people have the choice of which school to
attend, it may not necessarily be true that they realize there is such a
choice. Furthermore, when guide dog schools don't communicate changes in
ownership policies with the consumer organizations - such as Leader failed
to do when they changed their policy - how does this reflect upon them? If
the policy were sound, why did they fail to tell us (NAGDU) about the change
in policy when giving their reports during our meetings. Additionally, from
what at least two other graduates have told me, not only was the issue of
ownership not shared until well into training, Leader asserts that this is
the way most guide dog schools are going. Leader can demonstrate their
regressive, paternalistic way of thinking, but they shouldn't misrepresent
other schools to justify their position.

Fraternally,
Marion
