[nagdu] Bags on airlines and NAGDU project

When I have flown with my Seeing Eye dog,a and have had a separate bag or
luggage for her. I have had to fight with the airline to be able to use that
bag as a free bag. The airline is so concerned with charging everyone for
luggage that when it is requested, I have been told it is not something they
can do. Now if you push hard enough they will make this exception. I have
not had this experience on just one airline, but several. The one airline I
find the most helpful with guide dogs is Southwest. I have called ahead of
time to make sure that they know that I am flying with a service animal, and
that one bag is free, and this is where I have usually encountered the
issue. When you look it up on the airline's policies and prcedures, it
clearly states that a service animal should have no charge for luggage, but
what they decide to do at the gate is another problem.

I think the card thing is a great idea. What if we made each card a business
style size type of card. That way we could give it to those that want to
keep it. It would certainly have the NAGDU info on it, but it also would
have the hotline number. The hotline that the board is working on trying to
secure for access issues. So it would be a two fold type of thing. For users
that want to give out info for the situation they are in. And then for those
users who want to give info to those who have access issues and need to know
what to do. I think that a business style size type of card is not going to
cost a lot of money, and we certainly could put the info on the card that is
needed.

Just my opinion,
marsha
