Yes, sounds similar if not the same as the old GDB harnesses. Luckily, my
class, July 07, was the first to be issued the newer harnesses.

Hi Mardi,

Seeing Eye harness handles are attached by quicklinks (seems like a misnomer
to me). You have to unscrew them to take the handle off.

After many bad experiences, I will never buy from LDS leather again. It's
kind of sad, since they do have the type of handle I want. I will continue
to investigate other options. I know the Bridgeport handle you mean. That
handle wouldn't work for me since it is not as rigid as a traditional guide
handle at the points of connection.

Angie

Hi every one, I have not ever had a harness that the handle was not
removable easily. What kind of a handle does the Seeing Eye use that is not
removable? Even my very first harness purchased through Trainer's Choice,
now known as Bridgeport Equipment, had the handle removable with easy snaps.
That particular harness was not a very good harness as the chest strap was
adjustable and the D rings were to close to the keeper straps, and the
handle was very heavy. I however did not know where to find any other guide
dog harness at the time. I had trained Lily to leash lead me so it did not
really matter if I used a harness or not. After that harness, I had one made
for my dog from a local harness maker that was much better and the handle
was not so heavy and still easily removed. It however was very expensive and
wore out after 2 years use. I now have had 2 harnesses from LDS and I like
them as they fit the dogs they were made for very well. Nala has had hers
for 3 and 1/2 years and it is in great condition. The handle has panic snaps
which are easily unfastened from the D rings on the harness. LDS does sell
the handles separately from the harness. The handles come in regular and off
set and you can get them in various lengths. If some one were to remove the
handle from a Seeing Eye harness, you could purchase one with the Panic
snaps and put it on the harness. It would seem that might solve the problem
of removing the handle when needed. I have a handle that Julie J made for me
that is easily removed, and I used it on Shaman's combination vest / harness
for training. It was very lite and worked out well. Have a great day, Mardi
and Shaman and Nala,retired.
