[nagdu] snow was update on my questions

Steve,

The O&M instructor who just happened to be stationed in La Grande to give me
beginner O&M lessons had spent some time doing O&M training in Wisconsin.
He had quite a few stories to tell! We didn't have a whole lot of snow that
year, but I was just learning to use the cane under blindfold, so I would
walk off curbs or get all bothered by tiny snow mounds. /lol/ Still, once
the snow melted, I had a very good feel for the ground under my cane.

The dog is much better, though. /grin/ Even more so on ice. My snow
boots were still in storage (who needs boots when it doesn't snow?), and I
discovered that the hiking boots I thought had good enough tread didn't, so
Mitzi got a good chance to show me her stuff while I slipped and skidded and
whined along behind her. /smile/ Her booties have much better tread than
the ones I was wearing!

Her booties are also much too cute. /smile/ When she's wearing them in
public, the ooh's and ah's we have to walk through get really embarrassing.
/smile/ I got a field cut for her a couple of weeks ago, leaving the bulk
of her coat long, with a clean face, feet and hygienic areas (as they
daintily call it at the groomer's), so now we're in a cuteness crisis
without the boots! We went on an errand to an unfamiliar place, and I wore
my sunglasses so it would be nice and dark for me.... I could hardly hear
the surroundings for all of the commentary. /smile/ At least nobody
stopped us to ask if she's a poodle. She definitely looks like one!

Happy travels with Misha.

I know that even when it gets to be sub-zero, I still have to make that
god-awful trek out into the cold. So, both of us are bundled up nicely, and

of course, my pup wears gear on her paws. I have used a product called
Paw-tectors which are used for sled dogs, so they work great for Misha. They

hold in her body's heat, and I rarely feel her shiver. If I did not use
these, she would be limping so terribly that we would be stopping every few
yards to warm up the paws. regardless of what product one uses, footwear
for winter is an essential part of the working dog's gear from my viewpoint.

There are just those times that I do have to go out, and although the city
bus stop is only a half a block away from my home, and only a block and half

from where I am dropped off to my office, she still needs htat exercise.
So, I put the booties on her and maybe take a 2, 3, or 4 block walk if the
walks and curb cuts are clear. That is probably the worst thing we face is
the areas that are still snow-covered now turned to an icy concoction that
can only be removed by a jack-hammer. Somehow, it all seems to get better
though after we hear that first robin in the later winter/early spring as we

know at that point spring is not too far off!

Please enjoy the snow in Montreal as much as we are enjoying it here in
Wisconsin! Smile

Steve & Misha
