hi marsha and all,
really enjoyed the post regarding ann & her horse and alternitive animals for service to disabled.
thanks ann for posting the links to nytimes and npr (love that radio station!)
i am wondering where any of us could stay abreast of articles of law that are in process of being drafted, approved, reworked et...?
As for the comments regarding some yes and some not qualifying as disability entitled to use of service dog/animal
I think if someone really needs a task trained service animal for whatever disability they have
(being their disability impedes their access to goods and services their quality of life)
then why shouldnt teh law to provide legal protection to keep and utilize their specificly trained animal ?
there are in fact many physical and or psychiatric disabilities
that i as a layperson know i am not qualified to evaluate or pass judgement on.
It is my hope that my ignorance as to someone elses issues,
would not be my ticket to influence lawmaking to exclude them-
I know prior to my disabilities i was totaly ignorant as to
the importance of the ADA and the ignorance of most non-disabled,
and the many ways they try to deprive us of our fADA /Federal rights.
QUESTION:
marsha you stated in your post:
<Most service animal related court cases that I know of were lost on the basis that the person was not disabled and therefore not entitled the use of a service animal in the first place.>
im curious, were these folks faking or lying about being disabled to bring their 'pet' somewhere public?
i would like to read some of the articles or documentaion on these type cases, can you refer me to where i would be able to read more?
respectfully
bunny
