I agree with you about all. Especially the fish. Thank goodness humans don't
have the same habits, but sometimes what we do is worse.

I agree about the comfort and/or companion dogs and their behavior. However,
I caution that we should not assume first, that the dogs weren't well
trained. Sometimes the best dog just doesn't like something about another
dog. Two, even the so called trained dog used for guiding is sometimes not
kept in training. It's the human, not the dog who needs to take
responsibility. Unfortunately, we users are judged by the behavior of all
guide dogs. I have even had people come up to me and say "that other dog,
the shepherd you have isn't as good of a dog as this one, is he?" I find
this strange, and amusing anymore. I have never owned a shepherd. Not a pet
or a guide. Since all blind people look alike, we're going to be judged as
being the same. WE have to remember that these are the ignorant and
patiently explain to them when appropriate, or let it run off our backs like
water on a duck.

Obviously, there's a spoonful of humor mixed in my comments. You can't take
everything literally.

Hey Mardi, I had a chuckle about the guppies and the need to seperate the 
babies. We had them as kids and we had tons of them and suddenly, there were

only a few of them - yummy babies!! (grin!)

I think people really object to the "emotional support" dogs that aren't 
trained to do anything.  The problem comes in when these dogs are out in 
public and they aren't socialized for that and they create alot of trouble 
for people around them. I was just talking to someone yesterday and he was 
telling me about these two supposed service dogs in a little market nearby 
his home.  They were growling and wanting to fight each other in the market.

He said he couldn't figure out what the "service dogs" were doing for the 
owners.  He said he was confused because the dogs were wearing service dog 
vests and weren't doing anything to mitigate the person's disability.  I 
told him that many people get service dog vests off the Internet and pass 
them off as real service dogs. You don't have to prove a disability to buy 
these vests, either.  I told the guy that this was a real problem for us 
with our guide dogs and that these problems impact our own access problems 
with our guides.

I occassionally encounter "emotional support" dogs on the bus who are very 
well behaved and the dogs are comfortable on the bus and out in public. One 
even lay quietly under the same seat as Landon - Landon misbehaved because 
he really wanted to make a new friend!  If the dog is well behaved and 
socialized, then I don't object to their presence.
