Hi Helene,
Sorry to hear that Jilli is going to retire. She will enjoy that time
either with you or your Dad.

Some people do decide to hold off getting another dog until after the
current one passes on. Some people like to go for a new dog right away.
There's no right or wrong way to do this - just personal preference.
Sometimes the person who chooses to wait will change their minds when life's
not as fun without the dog! (grin!) Is Jilli your first guide? I am on my
eighth guide dog and it never gets easy. The first is the hardest to retire
because you've never done that before and don't know what it would be like.
Each dog is a different personality and you love them all - like you'd love
each of your children. You never forget any of them. There is room for
love for all of the dogs in your heart and it doesn't take away your love
for the retiring dog.

Good luck to you and don't be scarce on the NAGDU List either!

Regards,

Linda and Landon
