[nagdu] Clicker training, hot weather

Hello Dan,

I think your assessment of what to do in hot weather is well thought out.

I live in Texas, where it is also unbearably hot for much of the year, and
my retired guide, a Golden retriever got to the point where he refused to
work in hot weather.
The key is taking short trips at cool parts of the day. I work in downtown
Fort worth, and the pavement is unbearably hot, thus I have booties for
Gabe. The sun also reflects off of the buildings which makes things worse!
As for clicker training, I had some exposure to it from one of our field
instructors after I returned from the Seeing Eye in September with my second
dog.
I think it is a fabulous method, and I feel it is a more positive way to
train our dogs on specific tasks, such as finding a particular bus stop pole
or trash can.
When I was in my retrain class, our dogs were exposed to clicker training,
but it is not yet incorporated in to our training while in class.

I don't know about other schools.
I highly reccomend the clicker trainig.
