Hi Katrin,

Welcome to the list. I've heard of a condition that interferes with a
person's ability to process visually and they have to learn blindness skills
to function independently.

Have you approached any of the guide dog schools to see if they ever worked
with people with your situation? There might be a school who would give it
a try or may even have already worked with a person of two with your
situation. Who knows (grin!) It's worth a try.

I am a long time guide dog user and I'm currently working with my 8th dog,
Landon. He's a red Golden/Lab cross from The Seeing Eye. Landon is 3 and I
got him a year and a half ago. Besides being my guide, Landon is a certified
Therapy Dog with our Humane Society and with a special program, Paws That
Heal, at our local military hospital where we work with wounded warriors.
All four of us staff members are visually impaired and we work with our
guide dogs.

Landon and I live in San Diego. Again, welcome and I think you'll enjoy
this list with our lively discussions! Some of the people who contribute to
the list are puppy raisers, people considering their first guide dog, a
guide horse user, and a couple of people with disabilities other than
blindness. We also have a couple of deaf/blind guide dog users.

Regards,

Linda and Landon
