I have a young Doberman with an enviable metabolism.  She eats a raw  
diet and gets about between 1 to 1.5 lbs of food around 7  in the  
morning.  She takes Proin for spay incontinence and handles it better  
when she eats with it.  She gets a treat-- usually dehydrated meat or  
a piece of cooked meat at work around 2 in the afternoon.  The same  
thing happens late at night before bed for her last dose.  She does  
fine with this.  It just depends on your dog, if he starts throwing up  
or if he needs food with meds you may want to think about it.
