anyone interested in guide dog cruises, I am a travel agent and will be giving a seminar to my host agency Montrose Travel.
On the cruises themselves they are welcome all of them.
The problem is the port of where you are going. You have to look at the port itself. I am going on the Norwegian Epic next november and I am still deciding if I want to take him not if they allow them.
I can contact that country for you and mind out what there policies are. Where were you thinking of going and if I can help you with a good rate as well please let me know.

I was shocked and greatly saddened to hear the news of Ed's passing. I thought he was getting better. It was just three or four months ago I was listening to a talking book of Ed and Toni's book Guide To Guide Dog Schools while waiting to hear from SEGDI about placement in a class.
What a sad loss for all service dog users -he will be greatly missed!

This is a great loss for the whole guide dog movement. My prayers go out for
his rest, and for Toni in her life alone.
It was a sad day for the NFB when the Eameses and Sue Whalen were driven out
of our organization.

Hey Guys,
Maybe somebody out there can help me get the cobwebs out of my brain. Before I recently became a first-time guide dog user with Dodie, I used to get the Southeastern Guide Dogs school newsletters umpteen years ago when I wanted a guide dog but was living in a situation at a girlfriend's house where I couldn't have a dog and I remember reading a great article about Ed Ayres (spelling?) and guide dog cruises he was arranging through Holland American in Miami I think. Anyway, that article has stuck with me and now that I have a guide dog, I have been searching for a website or somewhere I can call or write to for info about guide dog cruises.
Now that I have Dodie, I am definitely interested in travel (as I save my nickels and dimes -whatever I can afford and have the time off) and finding out about travel tours for blind people etc. My friend Sandra and her late husband did a skiing trip for the blind in Colorado a couple of years ago.
I have always been jealous of my dad and stepmom's ability to travel so much and see new places, while I was always the one left at their house petsitting their dogs!!
Any help in finding out about Ed Ayres cruises or other travel opportunities would be greatly appreciated!

Oh, this is sad. I'd hoped he'd recover but he has gone on to another
aspect of his life and he'll be missed in this part of life.

the assistance dog movement's greatest champions, Ed Eames, Ph.D., IAADP's

co-founder and President.
Ed's spouse Toni (also blind and partnered with her guide dog) has asked
that in lieu of anything, contributions in Ed's honor to IAADP would be most
appreciated. We have set up a special Memorial section with a few photo
highlights to remember Ed by, as well as an opportunity to make a memorial

that Toni would like to collect for a keepsake book for our organization.

Ed had successful heart surgery two years ago. Very recently a blood borne
infection sent him to the hospital. Recovery looked very positive until ten
days ago, when several debilitating strokes occurred and quickly claimed his
life. Ed was called to our Lord at dawn on Oct. 26.
IAADP was launched in 1993 at a historic meeting organized by Ed, Toni and
Joan Froling in St. Louis, held in conjunction with the Assistance Dogs
International Conference. Its overall mission has been to empower disabled
persons with guide, hearing and service dogs to work together to foster the
assistance dog movement through our global networking publication, "Partners
Forum," many important advocacy and education campaigns, peer support
projects, our website and conferences that enabled partners and programs to
learn from each other. We have grown from a handful of advocates to more
than 2500 Partner members over the last sixteen years, led by a volunteer
board of assistance dog partners elected by the membership.
Ed was our friend and an extraordinary advocate. He forged relationships
with corporations around the world and with his easy going "ask" brought
untold benefits to us. Ed knew full-well that the majority of us teamed
with guide, hearing and service dogs were on the lower income scale. His
advocacy to garner support for our canines was only matched by his tireless
advocacy for our access rights. Among other things, Ed and Toni also
traveled throughout the USA each year and to other countries with their
guide dogs, lecturing at veterinary schools and veterinary conferences about
the special role that veterinarians play in maintaining the team, to educate
them about IAADP, raise disability awareness and to ask veterinarians to
consider free or discounted veterinary services for assistance dog teams.
There will be a memorial service for Ed in the near future. I'll provide
further details about that as they become available.
Please join me in saying Good bye to my dear friend, Ed Eames. And to Toni,
join me in support of the next chapter of her life. We can not fill the
void left but we can walk with her.

Wow, I'm so sorry this is happening. I'm glad you will be getting a trainer
out soon though and that they will be able to pin down what's going on. I
would definitely go to Judy Campbell or Phil Griffin with this, or even Greg
Doborsky (spelling) if this doesn't help this time and tell them personally
about what's been going on. I'm just so sorry that you've had two dogs in a
row with such problems. I'm glad you've figured out the Milkbone problem
though, that's at least one less thing to worry about. I wonder too if he
isn't working well because he's not feeling well. Maybe the few days off
will tell the tale. If he gets better, then you know it may be stress
related. If not, then there's something else going on. I sure hope you can
figure this out and keep working with Trice.

Hey Guys,
Maybe somebody out there can help me get the cobwebs out of my brain.
Before I recently became a first-time guide dog user with Dodie, I used to get
the Southeastern Guide Dogs school newsletters umpteen years ago when I wanted a
guide dog but was living in a situation at a girlfriend's house where I couldn't
have a dog and I remember reading a great article about Ed Ayres (spelling?) and
guide dog cruises he was arranging through Holland American in Miami I think.
Anyway, that article has stuck with me and now that I have a guide dog, I have
been searching for a website or somewhere I can call or write to for info about
guide dog cruises.
Now that I have Dodie, I am definitely interested in travel (as I save my
nickels and dimes -whatever I can afford and have the time off) and finding out
about travel tours for blind people etc. My friend Sandra and her late husband
did a skiing trip for the blind in Colorado a couple of years ago.
I have always been jealous of my dad and stepmom's ability to travel so
much and see new places, while I was always the one left at their house
petsitting their dogs!!
Any help in finding out about Ed Ayres cruises or other travel
opportunities would be greatly appreciated!

Ed,
The loss of Dr. Eames is certainly a loss to the service animal
movement. He made a monumental impact to the cause. I would also like to
say, however, that those who left the NFB over the issue of the informed
choice resolution did so on their own accord and were not "driven out"!

Toni,
I read with sadness the news of Ed's transition! He is a person who made
a significant impact in the lives of all service animal users and will be
missed deeply!
I believe I know how difficult it must have been to write the message
you sent to us concerning his illness and your hopes for his recovery! Many
of us were holding Ed in our thoughts and prayers, believing his fighting
spirit would pull him through. I believe he is now completely healed and is
at peace! Though his physical form is no longer with us, his spirit will
live forever in his accomplishments and the difference he has made in our
lives. It is an honor to have known Ed and I am grateful for the
contribution he has made to our Movement! I will remember him forever and
promise to continue his advocacy through mine!
