Any reason given for this stricture other than those on high deciding
against service animals in a temple?

In the LDS (Mormon) community) service animals are not allowed in temples at
all. I haven't had any issues with church, but I can't take my dog into the
temple at all. It is specifically written on the church website. www.lds.org
