[nagdu] problems with new dog

Good for you, Cheryl O.!

People have to take responsibility for their own actions - after all, how
the hell can you see people coming when they just come walking in without
giving you a chance to leash your dog?

I like the idea of enlisting the help from these people to teach your dog
that greeting doesn't happen when all four are not on the floor! LOL! One
important thing - BE CONSISTANT!!! For the dog, greeting NEVER happens
until all four feet are on the floor. That lightbulb will go on in the
dog's head and she won't jump on people anymore. Jumping up on people =
being ignored.

Landon doesn't jump on people but he races around and licks them and
practically bowls them over in his exuberant welcoming. My friend, Elinor,
is nervous of dogs so I take a hold of Landon's collar when she comes over,
they greet each other, and Landon goes and lies on his bed.

If a worker or Housing Commission inspector comes, I put Landon's leash on
him and tell them Landon is a guide dog and is safe. Landon is going to be 5
this coming November but he sure still thinks he's a puppy!

Lyn and Landon
