[nagdu] Tips For Slowing Down?

Jes,

I also have a super fast dog. I really like the speed though. What others
have suggested, rocking the harness handle, the leash in the right hand,
stopping or a bit of obedience are all good.

If I really need him to slow down just stopping and letting go of the
harness handle will usually do the trick. He'll typically take about two
more steps and then realizes I'm not there. *smile* Of course I still hold
the leash. If that doesn't work you could even try stopping, and turning
180 degrees and continuing in the opposite direction. It may be that he is
very focused on getting to his destination, interrupting that might help.

If I need to move very slowly or in a very crowded small space I will
sometimes have Monty collar guide. Most people refer to this technique as
leash guiding, but Monty is tall enough that I use his collar. He
understands the change and will move accordingly.

Because he's bumping into people or things in addition to the speed, I think
changing direction may be your best bet. It sounds like he's over excited.
I agree with others that even if you are going pretty quickly you still
should be clearing all obstacles.

Best of luck,
Julie
