[nagdu] a couple questions

Yes, I'd agree with this, all schools that I knowof assist you to the
gate.
As for my times at Leader Dogs, I liked my dogs. I liked the
instructors. The new dorm is great, though it lost some of the community
feel of the old dorm.
I'm still not sure how I feel about the ownership policy, but if it
doesn't bother you, then you're fine there.
Things I did not like are the lack of information I was given about my
first dog. I was given more about my second. I wouldn't want to go there
in the winter, so I didn't. The grief counceling session seemed
mechanical so if you are still grieving, you want to talk that all out
before you go.
I missed having access to email, though with an Iphone that wouldn't be
an issue now.
The training runs we did met my needs or as close as we could get.
This help any?

You probably won't be going through a body scan or invasive pat down if
you
make sure you are not wearing or carrying metal on you. When you go
home, at
least from TSE, the instructors get a pass through the security and
accompany you to the gate. They aren't allowed to walk on the plane with
you
anymore though, but how lost can you get, even with a new dog, walking
down
a jetway?

Interesting about your horror stories about people who know people and
down the line about Leader. My friend won't go anywhere else. I have
had two direct stories about people who didn't feel they got help after
graduation from Seeing Eye, however, both would recommend Seeing Eye.
Seems like in both cases there are more to the stories than at first
glance. I'm hoping the poster that has had several Leader dogs will
post some information about the school. I am looking for information
like Shannon posted and also Cindy has provided some very good points to
think about.

Here is one point I am considering - If I have to fly I could well have
to endure a body scan on the way home. Hard as I might try not to set
off a metal detector, I might just be the random lucky winner of a full
body pat down (grope) as people with service dogs are not allowed to go
through the full body scan machines, and I am not up to that so I will
have to consider schools I can reach by bus or possibly train. I really
like GDB's shorter program though (and that would be one long train
ride).

True this post has brought out some negative comments, but I am really
learning a lot about the topic of choosing a guide dog school. They say
this choice is as important as choosing a college, so I hope the thread
continues for a while.
