Jessica,
I enjoyed reading Barbara Woodhouse's books while waiting to get Yeira, my
second guide dog.
NLS has them on tape.

Why not join a dance class, or water aerobics--something to get your blood
rushing a bit, and get lots of exercise.

The time will pass more quickly than you anticipate.

Have you looked on the NLS BARD site or Book Share? I'm sure that both have
plenty of doggie and guide dog material for you to read.
