Dear Guide Dogs Grads,

There is an old axiom that seems appropriate today: "The only constant
is change."

Effective last Friday, July 23, our President, Nancy Gardner, left Guide
Dogs for the Blind to pursue other interests. Her enthusiasm for so many
projects, from new training protocols to a new campus plan will be long
remembered. We appreciate her years of service and wish her well.

At the beginning of this month, we had another change that many of you
are already aware of -- I became the Chair of our Board of Directors. As
many of you know, I have been a volunteer at our San Rafael campus since
1985 and know many of you in San Rafael from my work in the kennels and
through my foster care of older dogs who need a loving home. I am also
the President of Allen Heating and Sheet Metal as well as Sunny Slope
Vineyard, and have served on many Boards, both commercial and
non-profit.

With the full concurrence of our Board, I am initiating a nationwide
search to find the best person to lead our organization. A successful
search takes time, so the Board has decided to fill two interim
positions.

Morgan Watkins, a member of our Board of Directors, has agreed to serve
as our interim President and CEO. Our CFO, Ken Stupi, will take on the
additional responsibilities of a Chief Operating Officer and report
directly to Morgan. Morgan will report to me and our Board.

Ken has been with us as our Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer since
2004. As our Chief Operating Officer, he will help ensure the continuity
of services during this period.

Morgan Watkins and his guide dog, Will, hail from Austin, Texas. He has
been married thirty years to a Texas native, DD. Their son, Richard, is
studying Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin. Morgan
has served on our Board from 1998 to 2001 and from 2004 to the present.

Morgan and Ken are both excited to be a part of the transition team and
look forward to working with all of you in these new roles.

Please know that I am available to you and look forward to working with
you in the days ahead. Thank you for your dedication to Guide Dogs.

Etta Allen
Chair, Board of Directors
