[nagdu] changes at GDF was MissingWashingtonCo.BoyFoundAfter5-MileBarefootWalk

If we think about it it makes sense as it is more natural to the dog as the
right foot/leg farthest out is what they see, not the one closest to them.
At least if I were a dog, this is how I would see it/grin!

I think most schools train the dogs to simply go forward when told, or, to
go forward once the right foot swings out as though you were stepping down.
Caroline will not go forward until my right foot is firmly planted on the
step below. I'm not sure if this is necessarily specific to GDF, but I have
heard of many schools who do not train in this way.

It does. But don't all the guide dogs do that? What is special about GDF in
this regard? Cheryll wrote it like it was something real special and it
sounds like well, basic guide work to me.

Step refusal is basically to keep us from tumbling down flights of stairs.
If I give Caroline the forward command, and we're at the top of a flight of
stairs, she will not go forward until my foot is planted on the step below
us. Hope that makes sense.

Step refusal? What is that?

Julie:

My guide dog is also from GDF. I find them a great school, they do
leash
guiding as well, and step refusal, they are a great school.
