Gosh Sherrill, I'm so sorry to hear that.  I know exactly what you mean. 
It's a terrible blow.
And they do try to keep going on.

Amba's oncologist told me that dogs try to hide their illness, because in
the wild, a sick animal becomes prey for someone.  It can make it very
hard to figure out what's really going on.
