[nagdu] Full Body Scanning Machines

Everyone will proceed through security in their own way. I, for example,
get to the opening of the standard portal, drop the harness and tell Africa
to sit and stay, drop the leash and then go through the detector. Once on
the other side I call her.

The advantage of this approach is that I do not set off the detector and
thus generally never face a more rigorous patdown or body scan. Africa
comes through the detector and always gets a full patdown which is never
long enough for her taste.

As someone else said on this list don't make the new proceedures more than
what they are. If you don't set off detectors you usually won't get
searched anyway. Act friendly, engage the TSA folks in a friendly way, and
you won't have a problem.

I have a goal every time I go to the airport of getting TSA people to laugh.
It works and I don't have problems with them.

Don't know how this is supposed to work. Is it dangerous for the dogs to go
into the scanner?

Guess I will see how all this works. Joe and I are flying to Texas for
thanksgiving. I am a bit anxious, but not much I can do about it. Yesterday,
while on the way to school, there was a radio program with women who flew,
and was having the "pat-down". But from her accounts the "pat-down" is more
like being sexually assaulted. And I thought it was just her account of the
events but, there were other women calling into the program, saying the same
thing. That for women who are being patted-down, the people who touch your
very private areas, and even under the breasts. I understand the need for
security at the airport, But. But. But. This is in my opinion; you can take
it or leave it, a clear violation of our privacy.

And from what I heard and have read, is if someone sets off the metal
detector, then you're "patted-down" or full body scanned. Now who of us with
our dogs, is not going to set off the metal detectors. I usually go through
the metal detector, without my dog. But because she sets it off, I get
searched too, not just her. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Like I said, just my two cents.

Marsha

Hello!

Does anyone know what the rules are for blind people with canes or dogs now
that the full body machine has been installed in most airports? What do we
do with the dog while we're being scanned? or do we have to submit to the
more intrusive patdown?

Toni
