Jenine,
    Though I am not a lawyer, my understanding is that, in order to receive 
compensatory relief, one must demonstrate that there was an actual financial 
loss as the result of the actions. Punitive damages, on the other hand, are 
meant to punish the entity; however, punitive damages are not awarded to the 
individual but to the government. Perhaps one of our legal eagles can give a 
more authoritative answer!
