[nagdu] places a guide dog can't go

Hi Peter,
Hope all is well with you - you've probably had some bad weather this past
week!

Please share your experiences in a petting zoo area with your guide. I want
to hear aboout what happened, how your dog reacted to the animals, how the
animals reacted to your dog , and how all the kids were as well. I have
never known anyone to have broought their guides into the petting zoo areas
as it has never been allowed.

Do you know the zoos that permit this? Here in San Diego, the guide dog
users are wusses who ABSOLUTELY refuse to fight for oour rights to bring our
dogs into the zoos and their petting zoo areas. We are also not allowed to
bring the dogs into any of the aviaries where the birds are loose and all
over the place. To me, what's the difference in having our dogs in the
aviaries or out on the streets with tons of pidgeons or seagulls? My dogs
are fine with all kinds of animals. To me, I would think that everyone
knows his or her dog and what kinds of envirnments work best for their own
dog.

As I was saying before I got sidetracked - the folks here are wusses and I
would have no company in trying to get our zoo to change their policy on
this - ADA or not. I can't do this alone and there's no NFB in my area. I
would get no support here - only a ration of crap from the wussy people!
LOL!

I would however, like to find out from the zoos who permit this feel about
it. And any handlers out there who go to the petting zoo in their local
zoos. Is there a problem with actual phsyical contact between your dog and
a deer or whatever they have in the petting zoos? Does the presence of the
dog in the enclosure cause undue stress on the animals?

Let me know and maybe I can see what can be done to change this policy at
the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park on our North County.

Take care,

Lyn and Landon
