[nagdu] Hospital and Surgeries

This is only my experience, but I know people who have done things
completely differently.  I've had a number of major surgeries in the past 30
years.  I've had multiple joint replacements.  They've been complicated
surgeries with long painful recoveries, starting with a week in the
hospital.  For all except one, I've had friends or family members take care
of my dog.  They would bring the dog to see me in the hospital everyday, and
when I got home, neighbors and friends helped with some of the care, as I
couldn't walk independently for a couple months. 

I know of people who have kept their dogs in the hospital with them, and
nurses and other hospital staff have helped with relieving the dogs and
feeding them, but I felt this wasn't the right solution for me, because I'd
just worry about it, since I wouldn't be able to keep the dog on a schedule
and wouldn't really know the people caring for the dog.  In the end, I felt
I needed to focus on my recovery, which in the initial days fin the hospital
is terribly painful with lots of pain meds, physical therapy and machines
helping my knee bend, if it was knee replacement surgery.

Now, my best friend, has had a couple minor outpatient things, and he's
taken his dog with him.  a friend has gone along and held the dog while my
friend is having the procedure, and that has worked well.

Ultimately, do what is best for you and your dog, that's what really
matters.
