Hi, Rox,
Many times, Odie always correct himself after a while.
Another trick I cam up with if he was getting distracted while using the GL 
was to lightly life up on the part under Odie's chin, hold the leash in my 
hand and push my hand to signal him to hub up.
Once he did, Odie was given praise with a good boy and that's better.
I do agree that when using either haulty or gentle leader, care should 
definitely be taken seriously.
Any training device out there if not used correctly can definitely cause 
injury to a dog.
