I had a very mild version of this problem when I first brought Monty 
home.  He has been very attached to me pretty much from the very 
beginning.  When I'd sit on the couch with my husband Monty would try to 
wedge himself in between us or constantly insist on getting attention 
from me.  I was watching a lot of dog training TV programs then and 
happened to catch an episode of "It's Me or the Dog" with Victoria 
Stillwell.  She was working with a family with a very similar problem, 
although theirs was quite a bit more progressed.  She suggested standing 
up, crossing your arms and giving no attention at all.  As soon as Monty 
would give up or walk away we'd sit back down and resume our 
conversation.  I'd wait a minute or so to call Monty to me and have him 
sit or something that I could reward.  It was a bit annoying for us, but 
the problem was fixed within a few days.
