[nagdu] Clearing Up the Fair Housing Amendments Act

Dear All,
I have been doing some research on the Fair Housing Act. What I have
been able to discern is that a housing provider may not ask for proof that
an animal has been trained; however, they may request a letter requesting a
reasonable accommodation to a housing provider's "No Pets" policy, including
a waiver of any pet deposit that may apply. This request for reasonable
accommodations should include a brief description of how the animal
mitigates a resident's disability. This rule applies only to the actual
residence, not to the public areas of the property. These areas are under
the jurisdiction of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Department
of Justice. HTH!

Fraternally yours,
Marion Gwizdala
