We could also gather a list of people who could volunteer to watch dogs. I would be willing to do this if I ever came to a convention. I know that if I were needing to leave my dog for some reason I'd much, much rather a person come to my room and watch my dog rather than putting her in a strange place with strange dogs without me and with several people doing the watching.
Perhaps giving people a few different options could help find a solution.
