[nagdu] Greetings and a Thank You

Liz and Cheryl,

As usual, I did it backwards. I decided to get a guide dog when I was 8,
in 1968 (or '69; it was a while ago). I didn't become qualified for one
until 1999, which I was declared legally blind. It was another two or
three years before I became a full-time cane user, though I was using it
more and more frequently leading up to that. My plan was to spend a year
as a full-time cane user before getting a dog, which seemed to make
sense. Betwixt and between, stuff happened, so I ended up getting some
black fluffy creature some lady assured me was a sort of dog, and the
rest is history. /smile/

I'm glad to know I'm not the only late entry into the wide world of
guide dogs. /smile/ I've found it's a good way to recapture lost youth.
At least the part where you're completely inept at everything because
you haven't learned how to do it yet. /lol/ Also, in the case of my
poodle guide, there seems to be a lot of soccer... Who knew?
