[nagdu] Suggestions for Human Down Time

I've gotten a lot of practice with this in the last few months. Here
are some things I did.

fetch games up and down the hall, up and down the stairs, in the yard

toy treat dispensers, the kind that you put the treats in and the dog
has to work to get them back out

training sessions on stationary skills. I taught brace, but you could
teach a hand target or something silly like to climb into a basket

I also built a cardboard box tunnel and taught Monty to run through it,
sorta like a living room agility course

bribe family to take the dog for a walk

walks on the treadmill

the recall game. This needs two people spaced far enough apart that the
dog will get some exercise running back and forth. Each person takes
turns calling the dog. You could also use one of those remote treat
dispensers instead of a second person to play this game.

hide and seek, have dog stay, go to another room where you hide and call
the dog to you

and new toys are always a bit hit. Monty will play with a new toy, or
an old toy, for hours and hours. He is a bit of a nut about toys.

HTH and all my best for a speedy recovery!
Julie
