Marilyn,

Mitzi poodle adores the find command. And leash guiding. And... /lol/
She has me pretty spoiled!

I'm not sure why, but people really do crack up when I give a find
command. Or they just go quiet, and I can hear their feet move as they
turn to watch this strange new thing... /lol/ Mitzi's happy little dance
and tail wave makes them giggle. /lol/ So much for my dignity.

I also really like how she uses the follow command. I'm still trying to
train my partner to go ahead and just let her follow as she sees best...
The work continues. Mitzi has become very good ad just doing her job
while the humans are busy wrangling over the matter. /grin/

Then I spoke to GDF and I knew that was the right school for me because they use the find command, step refusal and leash guiding. I would never say one school is better than another. They all teach different things and it depends what your needs are. I need a dog that can find things for me like doors, steps, bus stops and trains. I also like leash guiding when I am in my agency or have to run out to break my dog . When the dog is guiding me I always have her harness on. My dog does a lot of work through out a day. I am in the field a lot for my job. I am an Independent Living Skills Specialist and I do outreach / Advocacy. I go to lots of trainings and meeting so my dog must be able to find things for me. Example last Wednesday I had an outreach and a co worker came with me. there were many doors in this building so I told Anna find the door and she did but it was the wrong door. My co worker said she is right finding the door but didn't know which door. People get a big kick when they hear me say find the seat and find the trash. They said how does the dog know all that. I said the dog was trained to do these things and it my job to keep up the training. So as I said its all in what you need for your life style.
