I'm glad this has a good resolution, but I'm wondering why he needs to use
the surgery money for a trip he supposedly had completely free originally?
The only thing I can figure is that he or whoever paid for the trip was
unable to change motel and transportation so lost their money when he had to
reschedule.

Cheryl, just speaking as another GDF grad here, while the GDF can help with
high vet bills, most of us aren't going to think about contacting the school
in the midst of an emergency. I didn't even think of asking the GDF for
assistance when my first dog had to have expensive testing back in 2004 and
I'd just lost my job. The school was frankly the last thing on my mind back
then. You might because you're close to them, but the majority of the GDF
grads live too far away from the school for it to really be up there as a
source of support until after the fact or at least until the person has
learned more about the dog's situation. It's possible that he could have
had his school reimburse him after the fact, but if you don't have the money
in the first place, that kind of help is not that beneficial.

Live, Laugh, Love. If that doesn't work- Raise, Aim and Fire!
