Hi, Sam and all,
My husband Dale or I usually put baby powder on Odie after his bath is done.
That seems to help moisten his skin and make it to where he won't scratch 
continuously.
When he's brushed, we also spray oncoat grooming spray all over his fur coat 
and then brush it in really well.
Odie has a couple of doggy pillows he can lie on in the living room.
When we do go on trips, we also take his porta crate and there's an old 
blanket in there for him to lie on.
