[nagdu] Stress Issues

Bibi,

Thank you for reminding me that baby powder is on my list of dog
supplies... I want to get a small bit of it to try out on Mitzi, since
she's been having some dry skin and itching... Also, if it can help the
brush in keeping her coat clean between major groomings, that would be
nice, too. /smile/ I use an Aloe Vera gel between groomings to keep the
coat and skin moisturized and to help loosen dirt so I can brush it out
in the summer when she's picking up more dust. With her, it all gets
pulled in and held there by the curls, so she can look really clean,
then come home to make a mud bath in the tub. /lol/ Or a mountain from a
dry brushing. Well, that was when she was younger, with long, luxuriant
puppy curls, and about a zillion of hours a day at the park come rain or
shine. Also too busy for brushing, so I ended up within a few months
giving up on letting the puppy coat grow out long until I needed to put
her to work or it got too hot in the summer. Now, I extend the time
between grooming sessions int he winter, but I don't delude myself about
growing the coat out long just to see what happens. /lol/ What happens
is snarls close to the skin that get ahead of you overnight and then
it's all over and the dog is uncomfortable and, well... If I had 4 hours
a day to brush/comb/brush/comb her then start over, that would be
different. Also, I'm lazy enough to like the short coat which I can just
brush and occasionally wash with a washcloth for dressy
occasions. /smile/ Which is why I want to try some baby powder so I can
see if it helps her skin and coat retain or regain moisture after a
quick wash down.

Hm... I also occasionally use olive oil for the skin and hair... I keep
trying to find some pure lanolin, although I get mixed feedback on that.
One groomer told me it breaks the hair on a poodle and she recommended
something more expensive that she sells... Also, she has a lot of
experience with show poodle, but the show coat is more wiry and not so
thick. Anyway, I've had oil of Mink myself before, but it is way, way
too expensive for my budget these days! I may be broke from mentioning
it. /lol/ Anyway, those little inexpensive tips and tricks always come
in handy. I want Mitzi comfortable and cool in the summer -- or indoor
in the winter -- so that means keeping the dirt and tiny, skin-tight
snarls under control as much as I can when her coat is longer. It takes
her forever to dry when I give a full bath -- and now there's only the
garden tub, which is awkward unless I want to get in with her. Also, the
dirty tub surface is more spread out, and while I'm collapsing to rest
before finding another thick dry towel for the dog and wondering if I
have anything dry left to wear, DD will run clean the whole tub, and
then I feel guilty. We're hopelessly silly around here, I think, but
whatever works. /grin/
