We use the stick as a complement to the guide dog in Sweden too, I forgot to say that. I've the guide dog handle in my left hand and the stick in the right hand. I use the stick to investigate when my dog stops for an obstruction as you said Laurel so that I can give her good directions. I also use the stick to investigate if she has followed my commands, as an example if I say "find the curb" I check with the stick before I give her praise or a correction depending on her action. I don't use the stick as a mobility aid however. How do you do that when you don't have a stick? *Curious* It's also an signal to the public that I'm blind as Maria told.
