Lisa I think those kind of things happen to many of us. In my case Mom was still looking for the miracle that wasn't coming. I felt for her because she missed so much because instead of just enjoying her daughter she spent time waiting and worrying about something in the future that wasn't coming and it blocked her acceptance of me in the area of being a blind person.
